A clinical analysis was done 240 cases of the ankle fractures that were admitted and treated in Capital Armed Forces General Hospital from January 1977 to December 1982.
The following results were obtained:
1. The main cause of the injuries was falling from a height and t¢¥ae other causes were directed violence, traffic accident, and sports injuries in order.
2. ¢¥The most common type by Lauge-Hanens classification was supination-external rotation type (60.8%).
3. Two hundreds and four (85%) patients were treated by operative method.
4. The result of the treatment was better in those cases of the open reduction than that of the closed reduction.
5. The good clinical results could be achieved by obtaining the anatomical position of he talus in the mortise and the reduction was achieved more satisfactorily when the key role of the lateral malleolus in complete reduction was well understood.
